Born in Mexico City, she started exploring the world of art at an early age focusing her attention on different plastic art disciplines. In 1977 she discovered porcelain painting and started her deep research work on the different techniques required to create these art pieces.

She opened her workshop in 1979 and still shares her knowledge there. She has been a partner at the Federación Mexicana de Pintores en Porcelana, A. C., from its foundation, acting as its President from 1987 to 1989. During this period the Porcella magazine first appeared, representing the Federation officially. The Fundación de Investigaciones Sociales, A.C. sponsored the edition of “Pintura en Porcelana, un Arte Decorativo en México”, in which hand painted porcelain pieces decorated by members of the Federation can be seen.

She has collaborated in many porcelain and ceramics art magazines circulating internationally and edited in different countries:  Mexico, the United States, Portugal, Italy, Finland, Norway, Australia, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Switzerland and France.

She participated in the book series “Porcelain Art- The International Collection”, edited in Australia; La Valse de L’Art, edited in Geneve, Switzerland; Sublime Porcelain in Egypt; Los Amigos de Filipe in Portugal, among others, showing 25 works of art created by artists from different nationalities.

Rocío Borobia wrote “Un Arte Sin Límites”, published in Spanish, translated into English and Japanese, where porcelain pieces made by her and her students are shown, describing the techniques applied in her workshop. She also wrote “The Alchemy Corner”, printed in English, with capsules on some of the techniques she used in her own work.

As an admirer of art inherited from ancient civilizations, she became interested in their religions, myths and rites, their history and legends, giving birth to “La Magia de las Culturas”, an homage to the cultures of our world, different in spirit and each with its own style, including pieces created by Rocío and her students. Thematic research and texts created by Gina Ulloa, who holds a Bachelor in Art History.

She has taken part in congresses and art exhibits both in Mexico and in the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, Chile, Japan, Spain, Italy, Uruguay, Egypt, Portugal, South Africa, Switzerland, France, Germany, Australia, Israel and Thailand. In many of these countries she has received well merited awards and recognitions.

With members of her atelier, their work “Un Arte sin Límites” has been shown at: Kiosco Cultural Banejército, Casa de la Cultura México Japón in Mexico City, Museo Nacional de la Cerámica “Pantaleón Panduro” in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. With “La Magia de las Culturas” she had an exhibition at Hospicio Cabañas, in Guadalajara, Jal. Her work has also been shown at national and international Congresses organized by the Mexican Federation of Porcelain Painters, A.C.

During 2010, in Mexico, she had a retrospective exhibition on “Arte, Fuego y Materia” at the Museo Regional de Querétaro. In 2013, “Soñares” was shown at the Centro Cultural México-Israel, as well as the retrospective “Alquimia y Surrealismo en México” at the Museo del Pueblo de Guanajuato. During 2014, her work “Rocío Borobia: a Surrealist Language” was exhibited at El Obispado, Museo Regional de Nuevo León, Monterrey.

Her fascination for art in porcelain has taken her from studying the classics to surrealism.

In this catalog we can appreciate some of her work, separated in three categories: Studying the Classics, The Magic of Cultures, and Surrealist Language, where she offers magical narratives in each of her works, both sculpted and porcelain pictorials.
